Bio
Originally from France, Fabienne made Calgary her home in 2001. She uses classical oil painting techniques such as glazing in a contemporary context. She thinks, like Théophile Gautier, that "Art is beauty". However, that art first froze and held time; art is memory. Fabienne sometimes takes Bertolt Brecht's approach, "Art is a weapon". Nonetheless, she attempts to develop a dialogue with the viewer where they can disagree with but still appreciate her art, a compromise in our divided world. Only a magician could do this nowadays, and artists are magicians, creating beauty with paints, violins, or their own bodies...
